RE: Part of the reason for summer gas price hikes

As opposed to Autum when prices go up becuase of the more expensive "winter grade" gasoline. :R Then it goes up for "Thanksgiving travel weekend", and up for the "Christmas shopping season", and up for the "winter heating season", etc, etc, etc. They just blow out lame excuses as fast as I blow out farts! :M

RE: IRS Stimulus Check Delay- Direct Deposit

Got mine last week. Don't know why anyone would want to have their TurboTax fees deducted from their return. It costs about double what it does to pay by credit/debit card after the "processing fees". :h

RE: 2 articles of interest from today's news

There are things we can do if we want: Eliminate oil speculators, as a start. That one is number one, top of the line reason right there!!! Gasoline pricing at the whim of a bunch of spastic whackos trying to get rich overnight. "Oh look, a butterfly in the Amazon jungle farted! We better start panic buying/selling!!!" and up goes oil another $10 a barrel! :R

Rear bumper of my trailer. Frankly, I'm amazed it hasn't been stolen yet. Two gallons of gas is worth the risk of going to jail for a lot of people these days. :R

RE: RV registration: dumb requirements

"Ask any insurance agent and they will tell you that liability follows the tow vehicle therefore, liability is not required on a TT or 5er" While the liability coverage from the vehicle may follow while the trailer is hooked up to the vehicle what about the times that the trailer is not hooked to the tow vehicle? Sitting by itself in a campground. What about while it is stored. Especially if it is not stored on your property. Really simple, the liability part of your homeowners/tenants insurance covers that. I made sure my insurance agent explained that VERY CLEARLY when I insured my rig. It goes as follows... Truck insurance covers liability on trailer when towing (or just attached). Collision/Comprehensive on trailer covers accidents, vandals, tree limbs, tornados, etc. Homeowner/tenant insurance covers the Bozo who cuts through your campsite, cuts his leg open on the tongue of your trailer, then decides to sue you.

RE: Laundry Etiquette

Sorry, THAT was what I was defending. Some of us DO have better things to do than stand there watching the clothes go round and round. :B And what about us, WE have better things to do than to wait for some one to get their laundry OUT!!!!:W Which part of "I make sure I am back before the load is done" didn't you understand? Which part of "Circumstances beyond my control" didn't you understand? I work for our county Sheriff's Office. I am on basically 24/7/365 call. If for some reason I can't get back in time to remove my laundry due to a work emergency in time for your convinence, I am a jerk? I'll be sure to tell that to the family of the victim that maybe dies due to our systems being down! SORRY TO INCONVENIENCE YOU!!! Talk about the ultimate in me, me, me selfishness, you just took the cake dude. (Excuse me a moment, I have to go change my laundry (seriously, I really do, becuase I don't want to KEEP ANYONE WAITING!(because I am such a JERK!))). Where was I... Oh yeah, so basically, don't "assume" that whomever inconveniences you by you having to remove their laundry is sitting back at home with a beer in their hand, watching "da game", laughing at the poor person who has to wait for an available washing machine. Perhaps it is a mom may be delayed because their child was hurt, perhaps a traffic accident, or perhaps, just maybe, someone in law enforcement/public safety doing thier job to help protect the public. Then again, it may actually be the 1% who is sitting back, laughing at you while they watch TV with a beer in thier hands. So that makes your attitude ALL OKAY! :R EDIT: Know what? I am a MUCH bigger jerk for spending so much time arguing over something so silly and trivial than I could ever be by leaving my laundry in a machine. Gawd, I feel so stupid! :S :S :S My appologies to all, bad night... WOW Man CHILLLLLLLLLLL. see the wink at the end of the post. BTW in the first post it's at a campground laundry mat....not the run of the mill city Laundry mat where there are usually of equipment to go around. Oh man, my bad. Totally missed the wink there. Whew, going on vacation next week. NEED IT BAD! Wound up WAY too tight lately (that 24/7 job stress). I'll have more sanity when I get back. :W :W :W

RE: Refilling 1 lb propane cylinder?

Who sells refillable 1 pound propane bottles? I haven't seen them since Famous Dept Store closed. Camping World sells 5 pound and 11 pound refillable tanks. I have the 5 pound tank. 5 pound tank 11 pound tank I would love to have one of those 5 lb propane bottles. My two concerns are: I REFUSE to pay almost DOUBLE the price of a 20# bottle for a 5# bottle. :S Are those places that charge a flat $15 fee to fill a 20# bottle also going to charge you a flat $15 to fill a 5# bottle? :S

RE: towing with new Jeep Liberty

My guess would be a wheel base problem As with the 1 ton vs Liberty safety issue, wheelbase is NOT a pat answer for safe towing either. I never had ANY stability issues when towing with my Liberty. It always tracked straight and handles VERY well. The ONLY reason I traded it for my Dakota was lack of horsepower. This idea that the only thing long enough to tow "safely" is a full sized quad cab, long bed that is the length of a small bus is rediculous. Heck, the wheelbase of my Dakota a THREE FEET longer than my Liberty, yet there are a whole bunch of people out there that will STILL insist it is "too short a wheelbase" to tow safely. :R

Sorry, I missed her second post where she said the guy yelled at her. Yes, in that case, he WAS a jerk. My previous response was becuase the general attitude of some responses seemed to be of the attitude they ANYONE who didn't stay right by the machine during the whole cycle ready to pluck thier clothes out the moment it stopped was a jerk. THAT was what I was defending. Some of us DO have better things to do than stand there watching the clothes go round and round. :B

RE: Laundry Etiquette

Okay, some of you are also "jerks" (especially any suggestion of throwing out the clothes). Obviously you people don't use a laundrymat on a weekly basis (not everyone has a washer and dryer at home) and don't have a clue. I certainly don't have to time to sit for a couple of hours in a laundrymat (which I use all the time, no washer at home) "guarding" my clothes. I either have other stores to hit or work to do at home. However I DO know how long the load is going to take and I make sure I am back in time (or before) to remove them. Guess what, that does NOT make me a "jerk". On occasion, I am delayed due to circumstances beyond my control, again, that does not make me a "jerk". Yes, it is perfectly acceptable to remove a load and place it in a basket or on top of the machine, but anything beyond that (as in "retaliatory" action) is a CRIME (vandalism) and YOU can be arrested for it. On the other side of the coin, I did see a video once from a security camara where someone removed a woman's clothes from a washer and set them neatly aside so he could use that washer. The woman came back and "retaliated" by pouring a whole gallon of bleach in the washer ruining the guy's cloths. Being a jerk goes both ways. So get over those "He's a jerk" and "I'd throw his clothes away" infantile urges and try being kind and considerate to others. It usually gets returned in the end.

RE: towing with new Jeep Liberty

I love how people who don't tow with a liberty speak for it. I tow a 19' 4000# gvw HTT with mine and it tows fine for the most part. I do wish it had a little more power for the long steep uphills but I just let the engine wind out and it works. I even think it stops better with the trailer than without it. I have not had any sway issues with mine, I am using the Equal-i-lizer hitch. I really don't think people know how strong of a suv it really. I HAVE towed with a Liberty. Yes, it will BARELY tow a 18ft - 19ft trailer but it is FAR from ideal. The OP is talking about a much heavier trailer. Just out of curiosity looked at the Jeep website. The Liberty, with the 3.7 V6 has a tow rating of 3500lbs. Look again. The Liberty is rated for 5000lb towing with the TOW PACKAGE and the auto tranny (at least, my 03 was).

RE: 2001 Dodge Dakota Towing?

I would agree with wa8shc above. I had a 2001 Dakota with a 4.7. At that time I had a 24 hybird that scaled about 4500#. If I came upon a hill or a head wind that trailer was all that truck could handle. If he was going to go only a few miles to camp he might be ok but longer trips would be a pain. He will be much happier with a lighter TT. Now come on here, reality check time. Both you and wa8shc are one of those I mentioned above that wants to tow their 40 ft 5th wheel up an 11% grade at 75 mph without downshifting. A Dakota will handle a 24 ft hybrid just as a RAM 1500 (or F150, or any other 1/2 ton pickup would). You people just have the unrealistic expectation of towing feeling like you have absolutely nothing attached to the rear. Granted, he will probably want to stay under 5000 lbs (80% rule), but seeing both of you TVs tells me you are into gross towing overcompensation. Give the guy a break and don't talk him into buying an F350 Super Duty to tow a pop-up. :R

RE: Refilling 1 lb propane cylinder?

I drove for years with no seat belt and was never killed. Therefore there is no need for seat belts. Really? Ah, hillbilly logic at it's finest! :S Now I know Bobbo mean't it tongue-in-cheek, but there ARE people who REALLY think that way. Like those who want to refill 1# propane bottles! :R

RE: 2001 Dodge Dakota Towing?

My 07 Dakota has 3.92 gears, the 4.7 HO engine (260hp, 310 ft lbs torque) and the 5 speed auto. This is the EXACT same drivetrain as the RAM 1500 (except I have 30 MORE hp). It's tow capacity is 6800 lbs. So in my case, anything that can be towed by a 4.7L RAM 1500, I can tow with my DAK (minus about 300 lbs). Drag and crosswinds have never been an issue as it is a heavy truck with a decent wheelbase. I tow a 3800 lb HTT and I PASS people in the climbing lanes on steep hills! Now the 01 was a different body style from mine but I think the towing capacity should be about the same. Now as for whether a TV "sucks" at towing or not is strictly the perception of the owner. Some people say a TV sucks because it won't tow their 40 ft 5th wheel up an 11% grade at 75 mph without downshifting :R, others are perfectly happy if they can maintain 55 mph on a 4% grade when towing thier pop-up. The towing calculator (link) on the Dodge website only goes back to 2002, but it lookes like the towing capacity is in the range of 5000lb to 6000lb (without more specifics on the truck).

RE: Gota stop the lie

.....So what should I call what we do 20 weekends a year.... I would call it having fun :B But absolutely NOT camping! What I do with my HTT is borderline "camping" only becuase I always go to state parks (with no hookups). As soon as I cross the line and go to an RV Park"ing lot", I would then be RVing (God forbid :E). As soon as I have a trailer that is on blocks with a permanent deck in the front, I will then call myself "trailer trash" (of course, thise would be a step up from the "apartment complex trash" that I am now. :B).

RE: towing with new Jeep Liberty

Nope, no more information is needed. A 23 ft, 4000 lb DRY weight trailer and a Jeep Liberty is a NO GO, period. I used to have a Jeep Liberty. I towed my boat and my PUP with it with no problems. But when I got my 18 ft hybrid trailer (which is considerably shorter and lighter than yours), it just wouldn't cut the mustard any more. I traded it in for a Dodge Dakota pickup with a V8 engine. Once you go to a full height trailer, the wind drag is just more than the 3.7L engine can handle. I LOVED my Liberty, but it's towing capabilities are pretty much limited to LOW trailers (boats and pop-ups). Also, the weight you quoted is the DRY weight. Once you load all your "stuph" into it plus passengers in the Jeep, you will be over the max tow rating. People who want to tow SAFELY go by the 80% rule. You pick a trailer whos GROSS weight is 80% of the tow vehicle's tow rating. That would be 4000 lbs (FULLY loaded) for the Liberty. But becuase of the small engine in the Liberty, even a 3000 lb full height trailer will be a problem due to wind drag. Unfortunately, you need to trade in the Liberty for something bigger and smack the salesman that told you that you could tow with this combination firmly in the head!

RE: Stealing fuel from vehicles

I have a two gallon gas can bungeed to the rear bumper of my trailer for the generator. I'm REALLY surprised that it hasn't disappeared yet. Of course, I'd rather have to replace two gallons of gas from time to time than risk the whole trailer going up in flames by storing it inside. Why can't they make a gas can that doesn't leak fumes?

RE: Newbie, I have questions about dry camping?

Generally, my 25 gallon tank will last me through a 3 day weekend. I have one of those 6 gallon jugs from Wal-Mart (the GREEN one, not the blue one) in case I have to add water. The spout fits perfectly in the fresh water fill. It's all about conservation. You just plain can't leave the faucet running like you do at home. Many people also over-flush their toilet. One people once quoted 10 seconds for a pee and 20 seconds for a poop. :E About 3 second for a pee and 5 for a poop is just fine, you can always add water at the dump station before dumping. Wash you fresh vegetables AT HOME before the trip (still haven't got this through my friend's head. :R), this used TONS of water. Use paper plates. Do you REALLY need that shower for a 2 day weekend (too many people are shower compulsive, many doctors actually recommend every OTHER day so you don't wash GOOD bacteria off you skin)?

RE: BlueAnt Supertooth bluetooth speakerphone (updated)

Whew, lost this topic for a while and just dug it up again. Just wanted to report that I have been using my BlueAnt Supertooth for a while and it is everything that the reviews say it is! People on the other end say they can hear me CRYSTAL CLEAR (can't even tell it's a speaker phone), and the sound quality and volumes is very good on my end too. I occasionally have a problem getting the bluetooth to connect but I think it is an issue with my phone and not the speakerphone (rebooting the phone helps). All in all, I am please with the unit and would recommend it to everyone. :B
